Hypnotherapy
is the application of hypnotic technique in such as way as to bring
about a therapeutic change. Hypnosis is a normal and natural method
of altering someone’s state of consciousness. It is very pleasant
and relaxing and contrary to what we may believe by watching stage
or television shows, you do not lose awareness or control, in fact
during hypnosis our awareness is heightened.
There is no such thing as a ‘hypnotised’ feeling,
the experience is different for each person. A trained therapist
will encourage you to respond within your own comfort zone by gently
guiding you by voice into a state of deep relaxation of body and
mind. It should always be remembered that at all times you remain
in control, and if at any time wish the session to be terminated
then you will be perfectly capable of doing so. After the session
you will be always be returned to a full waking state.
During hypnosis the sub-conscious part of your mind (where all
our past experiences and emotions are stored) is more receptive
and this allows the therapist to induce beneficial changes using
either Suggestion or Solution based therapy:
Suggestion therapy – used to great effect to help with
problems such as giving up smoking, exam nerves, pain control
and particularly effective for pregnant women to promote a relaxing
birthing experience.
Solution based therapy – is particularly effective
for phobias for example, birds, flying, spiders, public speaking,
and lack of confidence/self esteem. This is aimed at desensitising
you from the emotion still linked to the fears or patterns of
behaviour.
At the first free session I will be able to give you an assessment
of how much improvement you can expect and how many sessions may
be required. If the problem is complex then progress will be jointly
reviewed at pre-agreed stages of the treatment.
