Hypnosis
is not new in Sports Achievement the Russian Olympic teams, in the
1956 Melbourne Olympics, took no less than 11 hypnotists to develop
mental clarity and help the athletes with visualisation. Most Champions
use some form of hypnosis whether it’s visualisation or affirmation
and many seek the help of a professional hypnotist or sports psychologist
to assist in their mental training.
In modern day, sports hypnosis is a rapidly expanding area of interest
throughout the entire world. It is the mind that determines the way
we perform and behave, therefore it is in mastering the mind that
the athlete has the greatest chance of performing at their best and
hypnosis can play a major role in helping the athlete prepare themselves
mentally.
This is particularly apparent in Equine sports, such as dressage,
show jumping and eventing, where the horse will sense if the rider
lacks confidence or is suffering from nerves.
This type of preparation will typically include a whole package of
approaches tailored to the athletes requirements and will nearly always
include methods such as:
• visualisation
• mental rehearsal
• increased confidence
• increased self belief
• increased motivation
• increased concentration
• increased focus
• reduce nerves
