People suffering from chronic pain usually find it extremely
difficult to relax. The goal of hypnotherapy for pain management
is to produce that deep relaxation which will reduce or ameliorate
the fear, tension and anxiety associated with pain. If appropriate,
self-hypnosis/relaxation techniques can be taught which enable the
client to further manage their pain.
In addition it is helpful for:
people who are unable to take traditional medication such
as pain- killers due to allergies;
amputees who are experiencing ‘phantom limb’
pain from limbs, which have been removed.
Hypnosis can be used in palliative care, to manage the pain of
the terminally ill and improve their quality of life.
Important Note:
Due to the fact that pain is sometimes a symptom of a more serious
underlying condition, it is imperative that the cause of that pain
is already known and has been diagnosed by a GP or other such qualified
medical practitioner.
